Day 1

Bucharest

Arrival at the international airport of Bucharest. Depending on the arrival time, evening tour of Bucharest, in order to admire the architecture of the surnamed “Little Paris” of the 30’s, Cismigiu Gardens and Lipscani Street (the former merchants’ street).

Welcome dinner and overnight in a 5* hotel.

 

Day 2

Bucharest in place

City tour of the most representatives touristic points of the city: old monasteries and churches (Church of the Romanian Patriarchate, Stavropoleos, The Choral Temple, The Russian Church), palaces and the boyar houses, each one guarding a unique charm and atmosphere (Sutu Palace, the Cantacuzino Palace, The Palace of Parliament),            the Athenaeum (a combination of neo-classical and baroque style, this jewel of the capital is currently the home of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra).

Visit the Village Museum created in 1936 as one of the first ethnographical museums in the world. The museum recreates the intimate ambiance of rustic dwellings from the main geographical regions of Romania.

Dinner in one of the famous and older restaurants in the capital. Overnight in the same place.

 

Day 3

Bucharest – Snagov – Sinaia

In Snagov, use boats to reach to the Snagov Island in order to visit the monastery where, according to the legend, the decapitated Vlad the Impaler was buried.

Departure to the mountain resort Sinaia. Visit the impressive Peles Castle, founded by the king Carol  1st in the 19th century . The castle has an impressive architecture, a grand palatial alpine villa combining different features of classic European styles, mostly following Italian elegance and German aesthetics along Renaissance lines, and houses a large art and furniture collection.

Free time to relax in the charming resort Sinaia, surnamed “The Pearl of the Carpathians”. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel.

 

Day 4

Sinaia – Bran – Brasov – Viscri – Sighisoara

Visit the Bran Castle erected in the 13th century by the Teutonic knight Dietrich, which evokes the atmosphere in Dracula’s century more than any other castle, with numerous interior yards, multi-stories fortifications and bleak corridors. Commonly known as “Dracula’s Castle” (and also linked to Poienari Castle and Hunyadi by Dracula’s legend), it is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

Visit the historical centre of Brasov: The Black Church (dating from 1477, acquires the name after being blackened by smoke from the 1689 great fire), The Council Square, The Rope Street, and Catherine’s Gate. If the weather allows, hike on Tampa Mountain (and visit the White Tower and the Black Tower.

Departure to Sighisoara. The next visit is the fortified chuch of Viscri, built at the beginning of the 13th century. The fortification has two rows of walls and many towers and bastions built in the different periods. The church and some building of the village are recently restored by the Foundation Mihai Eminescu Trust, directed by Prince Charles himself.

Arrival in Sighisoara. Free time for an evening tour in the medieval citadel. Dinner and overnight in 5* hotel in the medieval city.

 

Day 5

Sighisoara – Sibiu   

City tour of the Saxon edifice dating from the 12th century, one of the few inhabited citadel of its kind: The History Museum in the Clock Tower, Dracula’s house, Weapon Museum, Covered staircase, The Church on the Hill.

Departure to Sibiu. Visit the medieval city founded in 1191 by the Saxons: Grand Square, Brukenthal Palace (an important Baroque building which houses the main part of the National Brukenthal Museum since 1817, one of the oldest museums in the world), the Jesuit Church, the Council Tower, Huet Square, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lesser Square and Liar’s Bridge. Sibiu’s fortifications made the city one of the most important fortified cities in Central Europe. Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture in 2007 and in every week-end there are festivals, fairs or cultural events.

Visit the ASTRA National Museum Complex, the largest open-air museum ethnographic in Romania that offers over 96 ha a great demonstration of pre-industrial folk technology and development. Overnight in a 4* hotel in the medieval city.

 

Day 6

Sibiu – Transfagarasan – Curtea de Arges – Bucharest

Drive to Curtea de Arges, following the road called Transfagarasan, (if the period allows), the second-highest road in Romania. You’ll pass between the highest peaks in the country, Moldoveanu and Negoiu. Stop at Balea Lake in order to admire the surroundings and eventually climb on the ridge for a better view.

In Curtea de Arges visit the Cathedral of Curtea de Arges. Built in the early 16th century with pale grey limestone and decorated inside with frescoes, the monastery is a masterpiece of the Byzantine style, with Moorish arabesques. The legend of the church’s builder and his sacrifice in order to finish his masterpiece is impressive.

Arrival in Bucharest. Farewell dinner and overnight in a 5* hotel.

 

Day 7

Bucharest 

Last visits and shopping. Departure.
